Welcome / Bienvenus / Welkom
I am very delighted that you are interested in the workshop Your Unique Green Life Choices that I offer in collaboration with Greenpeace. On this page I will explain a bit more about the workshop.
Workshop: Your Unique Green Life Choices
Do you want to live a ‘green life’ in modern times and do you often feel squeezed between the two of them? You want to have a new smartphone because your old one is too slow. Or you want to make a weekend trip to Barcelona, because it is three times cheaper and two times faster than the train. You are very aware of the fact that your choices and actions leave an ecological footprint. You know about the environmental impact of new clothes, electronic devices and flying. And you feel that you could and want to do more to reduce your ecological footprint, but you feel confused where to start and you regularly feel you are not doing enough. Then I invite you to join me in this workshop.
What will we do?
For this workshop you will define an environmental theme that matters to you and where you feel you can and want take actions in your personal life to reduce your ecological footprint. This could be reducing plastic in your life, or reducing the impact of your purchases of electronica, clothes or food. Or it could be that you want to minimize the CO2 footprint of your travels.
In the workshops you will explore the environmental theme that you selected and explore it from the perspective of your “Save the Planet” part. The part of you that gets very excited to live a more sustainable life. And we will see if there is a part of you that you feel is “Holding-You-Back” to take actions. You might identify it as your “Self Concerned” part or “My Contribution is Too Small Anyway” or something totally else might come up.
You will bring alive these two parts of you through guided movement, drawing and writing exercises. For instance you will explore the way your “Save the Planet” part walks, his gestures and connect to his/her feelings, dreams, needs and fears. And we will do the same for the part that we feel is holding us back. You might discover that your “Save the Planet" is continuously demanding too far reached goals and ending up being chronically frustrated about him or herself. Or maybe you will see that the voice of your “Holding-You-Back” part is in fact linked with a strong need for taking care of your own needs. So we will creatively research these two parts in ourselves and make them dialogue with each other and with the group through movement, drawing and writing.
And at the end of the workshop you will create a personal dedication to reduce your footprint and define a concrete step that you would like to take.
Intention behind the workshop
This workshop drives on the premise that our choices and actions, even the ones we make while we know they are less sustainable, are based on our underlying dreams, needs and fears. And that we can access these hidden dreams, needs and fears through somatic work and creative explorations. It is based on the belief that when we become more aware of our drives to live more sustainable and that what stops of from taking actions, we are capable of making better choices, instead of letting unconscious processes hijack our choices. And it is my personal belief that when we know our dreams, needs and fears, we can playfully and joyfully start to take concrete steps towards creating our unique way of green living that honors the planet and ourselves.

About me and my Green Life Choices
I am Liesbeth de Jong, and as a five-year-old I also cycled to school despite of heavy rain, because I had heard that the car was ‘bad for the environment’. Even if my parents brought my sister to school by car, I was insisting to take bike. As a student at Wageningen University I followed a course in environmental history, and I remember that I felt shocked by the way many environmental problems were (and are) being ignored. And now, when I myself am faced with choices, I catch myself on my own tendency to ignore the effect of my choices and think that there is still time.
I often feel guilty about the ecological footprint I leave on this planet. And I feel curious how to give this small ‘Save-the-Planet’ five-year-old kid a stronger voice again. So that is why I decided to create this workshop which marries my love for moving and my desire for humans to live more in integrity with the Planet. This workshop is an experiment like the rest of my life.
